Commercialization support for investors, corporations, industry partners, and DOE-funded innovators.

Each year, the U.S. Department of Energy invests approximately $300 million through its Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, providing competitive, non-dilutive funding that helps American small businesses develop innovative technologies with strong commercial potential.

As part of DOE’s efforts to strengthen and expand SBIR/STTR programs, FESI is building an investor and commercialization network designed to provide an external, Phase III-like commercialization pathway for awardees completing the R&D-focused Phase I and II SBIR/STTR programs. This first-of-its-kind initiative will curate connections between DOE-funded innovators and the investors, corporations, and industry partners who can help their technologies reach the marketplace even after they complete the core program.

With its unique authority to leverage private capital, industry partners, and philanthropy, FESI is well-positioned to connect select awardees with the expertise, networks, and market opportunities needed to scale and deploy innovative energy technologies.

*Please note: FESI is not involved with DOE’s SBIR/STTR award selection process. For more on the program itself, visit: https://www.energy.gov/technologycommercialization/
